Being named to multiple Forbes lists in the same year has become habit-forming for several fast-growing small companies.

One of them, 3D Systems Corporation DDD just claimed the No. 43 spot in the prestigious magazine’s 2014 list of top 100 U.S. small companies.

That honor followed 3D Systems’ designation as the 13th-most innovative growth company for 2014, according to Forbes.

America’s Best Small Companies

The Forbes list of top 100 small companies is closely watched for “up and comers” in the business world. The list features Forbes designated cream of the crop public companies with less than $1 billion in sales.

Forbes ranks firms over both one- and five-year periods on earnings growth, sales growth, return on equity and stock performance vis-à-vis an industry peer group, according to the magazine.

Most Innovative Growth Companies

The other list to which 3D belongs is Forbes’ 2014 edition of Most Innovative Growth Companies.

This list, made up of companies with less than $10 billion in market cap, ranked those companies by their innovation premium.

Forbes defined innovation premium as “the difference between their market capitalization and a net present value of cash flows from existing businesses (based on a proprietary formula from Credit Suisse HOLT). “
