TD Ameritrade Chief Strategist Sees Friday Jobs Number Around 225K

Speaking to Benzinga, TD Ameritrade Chief Strategist JJ Kinahan has seen the consensus for Friday’s jobs number between 145,000 and 275,000, which is a huge range, he said.

Kinahan thinks that the 225,000 range is more of a realistic expectation, but anything under 200,000 would be a big miss.

If the number is above 200,000, Kinahan said the next focus should be on where those jobs are coming from.

“If you think about the November jobs report, we got a lot of those jobs in the food services industry, which is not where you want to see jobs,” he said.

Kinahan explained that while those are fine jobs, it would be better to see increasing jobs in business services, construction, manufacturing and healthcare.

“You really want to see us creating jobs where people have healthcare, where people have long-term benefits that lead to people buying homes,” he said.
