Con-way Freight, the nationwide less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier of Con-way Inc.
CNW
, announced today that it will implement a general rate increase averaging 4.7 percent, applicable to non-contractual business, effective October 27. The rate increase will apply to customers on the company's CNWY 599 tariff. It will affect general LTL rates, minimum charges, accessorial and other supplemental fees involved in the provision of service for LTL shipments moving within the United States and Canada, cross-border shipments moving between the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada, and the domestic U.S. portion of shipments into Mexico. The rate increase is intended to help offset rising costs of doing business, including enhanced compensation programs to attract and retain quality drivers, increased regulatory compliance, fleet operations and revenue equipment costs, and technology upgrades which enable the company's premium service product. Customers can view the new rates after October 27 through the My Con-way.com page on the Con-way website. Con-way Freight provides time-definite regional and national LTL service with the industry's fastest and most reliable transit times through a network of more than 425 service locations in the United States and Canada, and provides service to and from Mexico in partnership with sister company Con-way Truckload. With 21,000 employees, Con-way Freight operates a fleet of 8,900 tractors and 25,000 freight trailers.
