Apple Inc. To Hold iPad Event October 16: Details Sparse, Tech Blogs Offering Mixed Predictions

Re/Code is reporting that Apple Inc. AAPL will hold an iPad event scheduled for October 16.

NDTV is reporting that Apple will unveil a new iPad Air 2 with gold color variant, similar to the iPhone 5s handset. The iPad may also include a Touch ID fingerprint sensor along with improved speaker grills. A new Apple A8X processor along with 2GB of RAM may also be present in the new device, according to the blog.

BGR is reporting that Apple's October 16 won't be as “hype-fueled” as the iPhone 6 launch, as Apple will only unveil a next-generation iPad Air. BGR notes that the new iPad will integrate the Touch ID fingerprint scanning system present in iPhones. A next-next generation “Retina iPad mini” and a “iPad Pro” tablet won't be unveiled until 2015, BGR further speculates.

Engadget is reporting that Apple's event is taking place in the company's Town Hall auditorium, making the event a “smaller affair than last month's spectacle.” The blog offers no specific predictions but does not that there is a chance Apple will also introduce new options on the iMac side along with OS X, Yosemite and Apple Pay “fanfare.”

Techcrunch is reporting that Apple could introduce new iMacs that sport Retina displays during the iPad event. The blog does note that “it's always worth maintain[ing] a bit of skepticism before things are officially confirmed by Apple invites.” As such, no specific prediction on product releases are offered.

Next Web is reporting that Apple will unveil “its latest and greatest iPads and a revamped line-up of iMacs” including a Retina-equipped desktop. Without adding specifics, the blog does note that the event “would please Apple fans desperately chomping at the bit to get a look at the latest iterations.”

The Verge is reporting that Apple will unveil an “updated version” of the iPad Air, a final version of OS X Yosemite and “quite possibly” iMacs with Retina displays. The blog also adds that the event is expected to be a “more laid-back affair” compared to the iPhone 6 launch event.

Slash Gear is reporting that Apple will introduce a “thinner” iPad lineup, with an iPad mini getting TouchID. The blog questions if Apple will release its 12-inch iPad Pro this fall, or if at all. “We've yet to receive our invitation to the event, but when we know – you'll know,” the blog stated.

Mac Daily News is reporting that it is “widely expected” that Apple will unveil a new A8-powered, second-generation 64-bit iPad Air and iPad mini models with Touch ID and anti-reflective screens. In addition, the blog speculates that Apple may also announce new Macs along with the public release of OS X Yosemite. The blog questions if Apple will unveil a 12-inch iPad along with an Apple TV at the coming event.

Mac World is reporting that “if Apple's patterns hold,” the company could unveil a “refreshed” iPad lineup which includes faster chips, thinner bodies and “hopefully” Touch ID. The blog also speculates that Apple could share new Retina iMacs and the launch of OS X Yosemite.

“Our fingers are crossed that we might learn an Apple Watch release date as well,” it stated.
