, the leader in application performance infrastructure, today announced that Veolia Water Technologies is using Riverbed® SteelHead™ and Riverbed® SteelCentral™ to improve the performance of its business applications and to identify, analyze and resolve network and application issues quickly. With Riverbed, Veolia has an end-to-end view of its entire global network and is optimizing the performance of centralized applications delivered to remote sites in less-than-ideal IT conditions, improving application delivery speed more than 80%. Veolia Water Technologies' parent company, Veolia, is a Global Fortune 150 company with $38.8 billion in revenues in 2012, operations in 48 countries, and – as the 33rd largest corporate employer worldwide – has 220,000 employees. Veolia Water Technologies has more than 10,300 employees and supports 130 geographically dispersed business units from a data center in Paris, provisioning IT services to widely spread out locations across a global MPLS network. Veolia Water Technologies' widely dispersed network created application performance problems for the company. Business-critical applications like ERP were delivered from the data center to global sites with patchy application performance, especially in Australia and Malaysia. Round-trip application delays on these routes impacted how well the apps worked locally. Opening the ERP app locally in Paris would take around three seconds, but in Australia it took about ten times longer. But solving the problems was challenging because it was difficult to get an end-to-end view of the network due to the involvement of different application and service providers. “To accelerate and prioritize the delivery of mission-critical applications to all our branch sites, we deployed Riverbed SteelHead across our entire network,” said Nicolas Stab, Performance Manager, Veolia Water Technologies. “Before the SteelHead deployment, a CRM tool in Malaysia took around 47 seconds to open. After the SteelHead appliances were in place, the time to open the app was reduced to around six seconds – an improvement of more than 80%.” Riverbed® SteelCentral™ NetShark, which is embedded in Veolia's SteelHead appliances, provides the company with network visibility across its entire global network. The SteelCentral analytics captures, indexes and stores packets traversing the network to provide rich troubleshooting data in real-time into Riverbed's performance management solutions. Veolia also uses SteelCentral NetProfiler and SteelCentral Flow Gateway to obtain even more insight into peak usage, packet loss and Quality of Service (QOS), and to provide proactive monitoring, analysis and reporting. SteelCentral Packet Analyzer provides full analysis reporting via an intuitive graphical user interface.
