Electronic Arts To Expand New Subscription Service Internationally

Electronic Arts EA aims to expand its newly launched subscription service to more countries in what may be a signal it's pleased with results so far.

The company launched the service last month in a new wrinkle for delivery methods for computer games. For a monthly fee of $4.99 consumer get unlimited access to the service's available titles.

“Our goal would be to roll it out in every market that wants it, it's absolutely a global program,” Chief Operating Officer Peter Moore told Bloomberg Monday.

Historically, EA's revenue derived from selling disc-based video game products through retailers. But digital revenue grew 27 percent in fiscal 2014 to $1.83 billion of the company's total revenue of $3.57 billion.

About 45 percent of total revenue derived from North America last year.

The new subscription service is currently available in North America, Australia, New Zealand and western European countries, Moore told Bloomberg, as the European gaming exhibition Gamescom gears up in Germany.

Electronic Arts traded recently up 1.24 percent at $35.51.
