, ("Safeway"), today announced the receipt of a request for additional information and documents (the "second request") from the Federal Trade Commission ("FTC") in connection with the FTC's review of the previously announced Agreement and Plan of Merger (the "Merger Agreement"), dated as of March 6, 2014, among Safeway and AB Acquisition LLC, Albertson's Holdings LLC, Albertson's LLC, and Saturn Acquisition Merger Sub, Inc. (collectively, "Albertsons"). The second request extends the waiting period imposed by the Hart−Scott−Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976 until 30 days after Safeway and Albertsons have substantially complied with the second request unless that period is extended voluntarily by the parties or terminated sooner by the FTC.
