GoDaddy Acquires Afternic To Lead Domain Name Aftermarket Sales
"Having the right domain name is vital, no matter your venture," GoDaddy CEO Blake Irving said in a company release.
"GoDaddy is working to bring the 'domain aftermarket' together with new registrations and make both super-simple to access. Our customers need an easy way to buy the name they want, regardless of whether it's new or has been registered previously. This acquisition forms a registrar-led process that creates faster and more trusted transactions across the board."
Afternic is the third company that GoDaddy has acquired this year.
On August 19, GoDaddy welcomed Locu -- a San Francisco, California-based company that promotes local merchants by strategically placing their information online -- into the family. Locu claims that it can reach more than 200 million consumers every month by enlisting in the help of its partners, which include Facebook (NASDAQ: FB), Yelp (NYSE: YELP) and TripAdvisor (NASDAQ: TRIP).
"Locu epitomizes what GoDaddy is all about – both companies are hell-bent on helping the 'little guy' thrive on the Internet," Irving said in a company release last month. "Locu is comprised of amazing technologists who have taken the very complex problem of helping small businesses 'get found' wherever consumers are looking and are solving it through elegant, technology-based services."
In February, GoDaddy acquired M.dot Inc., a Scottsdale, Arizona-based startup that developed an app for small business website creation and management.
"GoDaddy was built from scratch and is now a multi-billion dollar company – their industry expertise and achievements are inspiring," M.dot co-founder Pavel Serbajlo said in a company release. "We're looking forward to taking mobile software for small businesses to the next level with GoDaddy."
GoDaddy recently announced that its Indian customer base has increased 86 percent over the last year.
