, the leading software platform for real-time operational intelligence, today announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire BugSense Inc., a leading analytics solution for machine data generated by mobile devices. The addition of BugSense will enhance the ability of Splunk customers to analyze machine data directly from mobile devices and correlate it with other machine-generated data to gain operational intelligence. “Enterprise applications and IT investments are increasingly shifting to mobile, making it an important source of data for operational intelligence,” said Godfrey Sullivan, Chairman and CEO, Splunk. “BugSense has a strong mobile development team and is an exciting addition to our product portfolio. Our goal is to make it easier for customers to gain insights from machine data generated by mobile devices, along with other machine-generated data, across Splunk's core use cases in IT operations, security, application management and business analytics.” Founded in 2011, BugSense provides developers and users rich analytics across a wide variety of use cases including mobile app performance, app quality, troubleshooting and usage based on data from mobile devices. BugSense supports all major mobile platforms, including Android, iOS and Windows Phone, via its mobile software development kits (SDKs). The transaction, which will be funded with cash from Splunk's balance sheet, is subject to customary closing conditions and expected to close during Splunk's fiscal third quarter 2014.
