US Stock Futures Up Ahead Of Economic Data
US stock futures are higher this morning, as investors are awaiting economic data. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 83 points to 14,671.00 and S&P 500 index futures rose 11 points to 1,577.20. Nasdaq 100 futures gained 19.75 points to 2,863.75.
US stocks closed lower on Monday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropping 0.94% to 14,659.56, the S&P 500 index falling 1.21% to 1,573.09 and the Nasdaq 100 index declining 1.09% to 3,320.76.
The ICSC-Goldman Sachs store sales will be released at 7:45 a.m. ET, while durable goods orders data for May will be released at 8:30 a.m. ET. The Johnson Redbook Retail Sales Index will be released at 8:55 a.m. ET. The FHFA house price index for April and the S&P/Case-Shiller home price index for April will be released at 9:00 a.m. ET. Data on new home sales for May, the Conference Board's consumer confidence index for June, the Richmond Fed manufacturing index for June and the State Street Investor Confidence Index for June will be released at 10:00 a.m. ET.
Demand Media (NYSE: DMD) reported that it has bought Society6 for around $94 million in cash and stock. The company also cut its revenue forecast for the second quarter.
Sonic (NASDAQ: SONC) reported a 3% rise in its net income for the fiscal third quarter.
Barnes & Noble (NYSE: BKS) is expected to post a Q4 loss at $0.99 per share on revenue of $1.33 billion. Carnival (NYSE: CCL) is projected to report its Q2 earnings at $0.06 per share on revenue of $3.55 billion.
Walgreen Co (NYSE: WAG) is expected to report its Q3 earnings at $0.91 per share on revenue of $18.43 billion. Lennar (NYSE: LEN) is estimated to report its Q2 earnings at $0.33 per share on revenue of $1.33 billion.
Smith & Wesson Holding (NASDAQ: SWHC) is expected to post its Q4 earnings at $0.44 per share on revenue of $170.72 million. Apollo Group (NASDAQ: APOL) is expected to post its Q3 earnings at $0.85 per share on revenue of $965.07 million.
European markets were higher today. The STOXX Europe 600 Index surged 1.44%, London's FTSE 100 index gained 1.07%, French CAC 40 Index climbed 1.39% and German DAX 30 index rose 1.69%.
Asian markets ended mostly lower, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average falling 0.72%, China's Shanghai Composite dropping 0.19% and Australia's ASX/S&P500 falling 0.38%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index gained 0.21% and India's Sensex surged 0.34%.
