US Stock Futures Higher After Upbeat Chinese Data

US stock futures are higher this morning, after upbeat Chinese data. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 33 points to 13,358.00 and S&P 500 index futures rose 4.10 points to 1,460.20. Nasdaq 100 futures gained 7 points to 2,729.00.

US stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average surging 0.46% to 13,390.51, the S&P 500 index rising 0.27% to 1,461.02 and the Nasdaq 100 index gaining 0.45% to 3,105.81.

Data on weekly jobless claims will be released at 8:30 a.m. ET, while data on wholesale trade for November will be released at 10:00 a.m. ET. The BOE is scheduled to announce its rate decision at 7 a.m. ET, while the ECB will announce its latest monetary-policy measures at 7:45 a.m. ET.

MSC Industrial Direct Co (NYSE: MSM) is projected to report its Q1 earnings at $1.01 per share on revenue of $582.26 million. SUPERVALU (NYSE: SVU) is expected to report its Q3 earnings at $0.06 per share on revenue of $7.90 billion.

Xyratex (NASDAQ: XRTX) is projected to post a Q4 loss at $0.32 per share on revenue of $255.18 million. SYNNEX (NYSE: SNX) is projected to post its Q4 earnings at $1.04 per share on revenue of $2.76 billion.

Ruby Tuesday (NYSE: RT) reported weaker-than-expected second-quarter results.

PriceSmart (NASDAQ: PSMT) reported upbeat fiscal first-quarter profit.

European markets were mostly higher today. The STOXX Europe 600 Index rose 0.03%, London's FTSE 100 Index gained 0.10%, German DAX 30 Index surged 0.25% and French CAC 40 Index fell 0.04%.

Asian markets ended mostly higher, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average rising 0.70%, China's Shanghai Composite climbing 0.37% and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 Index gaining 0.32%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index rose 0.59% and India's Sensex fell 0.02%.

China's December exports climbed 14.1% y/y, versus a 2.9% rise in November.

Crude-oil futures surged $1.30 to trade at $94.40 a barrel.

The US dollar gained 0.29% against the Japanese yen to trade at ¥88.13.
