Science Applications International
Corporation (SAIC)
today announced it was awarded a prime contract
by the Naval Medical Logistics Command to provide research and development
(R&D) services in support of the Naval Submarine Medical Research Laboratory
(NSMRL). The single-award, cost-plus fixed-fee contract has a one-year base
period of performance, four one-year options, and a total contract value of
approximately $22 million if all options are exercised. Work will be
performed primarily at the Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Conn.
The NSMRL is the only U.S. Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery dedicated
research institution for submariner performance. NSMRL research areas focus
on the medical, psychological, and physiological interactions between the
human and the submarine, serving the submarine force and the Navy by taking
the lead in undersea human factors, sensory sciences, and operational
medicine.
Under the contract, SAIC will provide R&D support services including
investigations of medical, psychological, physiological, and other issues
associated with the health and performance of Naval personnel in operational
and non-operational settings. Research and testing conducted under this
contract will be broad in scope and encompass a wide range of disciplines,
covering all aspects of submariner wellness, submariner psychological factors,
shipboard force health protection, human factors, and undersea warfighter
capabilities.
