Baidu Announces Release of Baidu PC Faster 2.0 in Thailand
Baidu (NASDAQ: BIDU) today announced the release of Baidu PC Faster 2.0, its comprehensive PC security and optimization software, for the Thai market.
The software addresses many of the biggest problems commonly encountered by Thailand's 25 million Internet users, protecting them from hacking attacks, viruses, Trojans and other malware. It also helps users recover available space on hard drives, improves boot time, and protects user privacy.
Thailand is the first market for Baidu's line of security products. Baidu PC Faster has been tailor-made to meet the specific needs of Thai Internet users. The product will always be available free to all users.
Kaiser Kuo, director of international communications for Baidu, said, “Baidu wants to do its part to contribute to the healthy development of the online environment in Thailand, and we believe that offering a simple, safe, powerful and free solution to protect Internet users and enhance their online experience is one of the most important contributions we can make.”
Baidu launched its first Beta version of Baidu PC Faster in Thailand in June 2012, and the software has been downloaded now over 1,000,000 times in Thailand in less than four months.
The new Baidu PC Faster 2.0 adds anti-virus protection, USB Guard (which automatically scans USB devices for malware and protects against infection), an improvement in the SpeedUp feature and a new boot time manager, and a Thai language interface.
In July of this year, Baidu and Singapore's Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) formally launched a joint research center in Singapore to focus on Thai and Vietnamese language resources and natural language processing. “Baidu believes that understanding the needs of users in each individual market and the special characteristics of languages like Thai are crucial to our success,” said Kuo.
