Benzinga Mid-Day Market Update
Mid way through trading Friday, the Dow Jones was up about 0.24 percent -- or roughly 33.24 points. The NASDAQ rose about 0.44 percent, or 14.09 points, while the S&P traded up 0.27 percent.
Merrimack Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: MACK) rallied on Friday with shares rising 10.76 percent, trading around $10.40.
Halozyme Therapeutics (NASDAQ: HALO) was also on the rise, rocketing up 29.03 percent to $8.27 following positive news on its Cinryze drug.
Skyworks Solutions (NASDAQ: SWKS) also got a boost, after it took a hit yesterday following its presentation to analysts. Shares traded up 2.92 percent around $24.73.
Shares of Rock-Tenn (NYSE: RKT) rose 2.36 percent in early trading to $68.95.
VIVUS (NASDAQ: VVUS) took a beating in early trading, falling 11.41 percent to $21.01 Friday following after announcing it does not believe its Qsiva marketing will be approved.
Cooper Tire & Rubber (NYSE: CTB) continued its fall mid way through the day Friday, dropping 10.22 percent to $19.74 following a KeyBanc Capital Markets downgrade to a Hold rating.
Celanese Corporation (NYSE: CE) dropped 3.50 percent to $40.56 after Wells Fargo downgraded them from Outperform to Market Perform.
In tech news, Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) released its iPhone 5 in stores today, which CNBC stated was the largest consumer electronic release of all time. Mid way through the day Friday, shares of Apple traded up 0.82 percent around $704.43.
Friday was light on economic news as there were no economic releases of note.
