US Stock Futures Up Ahead Of Economic Data
US stock futures are higher this morning, as investors are awaiting economic data. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 25 points to 12,999.00 and S&P 500 index futures rose 3.60 points to 1,366.50. Nasdaq 100 futures gained 5 points to 2,605.75.
US stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average rising 0.36% to 12,984.69, the S&P 500 index surging 0.43% to 1,363.46 and the Nasdaq 100 index jumping 0.81% to 2,956.98.
Data on January new home sales and February consumer sentiment from Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan will be released around 10 a.m. ET.
Pepco Holdings Inc (NYSE: POM) is projected to post its Q4 earnings at $0.18 per share on revenue of $1.75 billion. Newmont Mining Corp (NYSE: NEM) is estimated to report its Q4 earnings at $1.27 per share on revenue of $2.74 billion. Alpha Natural Resources Inc (NYSE: ANR) is projected to post its Q4 EPS at $0.26 on revenue of $2.16 billion.
Interpublic Group of Companies Inc (NYSE: IPG) is expected to post its Q4 earnings at $0.39 per share on revenue of $2.08 billion. Washington Post Co (NYSE: WPO) is projected to report its Q4 earnings at $5.36 per share on revenue of $1.04 billion. J.C. Penney Co Inc (NYSE: JCP) is projected to post its Q4 earnings at $0.68 per share on revenue of $5.5 billion.
American Water Works Company Inc (NYSE: AWK) is projected to post its Q4 EPS at $0.32 on revenue of $696.30 million. Portland General Electric Co (NYSE: POR) is projected to post its Q4 EPS at $0.44 on revenue of $499.70 million. FTI Consulting Inc (NYSE: FCN) is estimated to post its Q4 EPS at $0.67 on revenue of $397.28 million.
Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE: CRM) reported its Q4 adjusted earnings at $0.43 per share on revenue of $631.9 million. However, analysts were projecting earnings of $0.40 per share on revenue of $624 million.
American International Group Inc (NYSE: AIG) posted its Q4 operating profit at $0.82 per share, beating analysts' estimates of $0.63 per share.
European markets were higher today. The STOXX Europe 600 Index gained 0.37%, London's FTSE 100 Index moved up 0.05%, French CAC 40 index rose 0.51% and German DAX 30 index gained 0.91%.
Asian markets ended mostly higher, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average surging 0.54%, China's Shanghai Composite rising 1.25% and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 moving up 0.49%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index gained 0.12% and India's Sensex dropped 0.86%.
Crude oil for April delivery gained $0.31 to $108.14 a barrel.
Gold for April delivery dropped $6.30 to $1,780.00 an ounce.
The ICE dollar index (DXY) fell 0.02% to trade at 78.62, versus 78.677 in late North American trading on Thursday.
