US Stock Futures Down Ahead Of EU Summit

US stock futures are lower this morning, as investors are awaiting a European Union summit. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 76 points to 12,538.00 and S&P 500 index futures fell 8.50 points to 1,304.00. Nasdaq 100 futures dipped 16.25 points to 2,440.00.

US stocks closed mixed on Friday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropping 0.58% to 12,660.46, the S&P 500 index declining 0.16% to 1,316.33 and the Nasdaq 100 index gaining 0.40% to 2,816.55.

Data on personal income and consumer spending for December will be released at 8:30 a.m. ET.

Gannett Co Inc (NYSE: GCI) is projected to report its Q4 earnings at $0.70 per share on revenue of $1.39 billion. Wolverine World Wide Inc (NYSE: WWW) is projected to report its Q4 earnings at $0.46 per share on revenue of $409.6 million. Reinsurance Group of America Inc (NYSE: RGA) is expected to post its Q4 EPS at $1.84 on revenue of $2.31 billion.

McKesson Corporation (NYSE: MCK) is expected to post its Q3 EPS at $1.37 on revenue of $30.08 billion. Triumph Group Inc (NYSE: TGI) is projected to post its Q3 EPS at $1.12 on revenue of $831.30 million.

Plum Creek Timber Company Inc (NYSE: PCL) is estimated to post its Q4 EPS at $0.39 on revenue of $305.23 million. Ryanair Holdings PLC (NASDAQ: RYAAY) swung to a Q3 net profit and lifted its full-year net profit forecast.

ABB Ltd (NYSE: ABB) announced its plans to acquire Thomas & Betts Corp for $72 per share in cash or around $3.9 billion.

European markets were lower today. The STOXX Europe 600 Index dropped 0.79%, London's FTSE 100 Index moved down 0.88%, French CAC 40 index fell 1.04% and German DAX 30 index dropped 0.70%.

Asian markets ended lower, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average dropping 0.6547%, China's Shanghai Composite declining 0.32% and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 moving down 0.32%. Hong Jong's Hang Seng index fell 1.6646% and India's Sensex dipped 2.15%.

Gold futures for February delivery dropped $11.40 to $1,720.80. Crude-oil futures for March delivery declined $0.47 to $99.09.

The dollar index gained 0.63% to trade at 79.33, up from 78.854 in late North American trading on Friday.
