US Stock Futures Up Ahead Of Manufacturing Data, FOMC Minutes

US stock futures are higher this morning, as investors are awaiting manufacturing data and minutes from the Federal Reserve's December meeting. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 206 points to 12,356.00 and S&P 500 index futures rose 21.70 points to 1,274.30. Nasdaq 100 futures jumped 43.50 points to 2,318.00.

US stocks closed lower on Friday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropping 0.57% to 12,217.56, the S&P 500 index declining 0.43% to 1,257.60 and the Nasdaq 100 index dipping 0.33% to 2,605.15.

US markets were closed Monday for a holiday.

The Institute for Supply Management's manufacturing report for December will be released at 10 a.m. ET. The US Federal Open Market Committee is scheduled to release minutes from its December 13 monetary-policy meeting at 2 p.m. ET.

Team Inc (NYSE: TISI) is projected to post its Q2 earnings at $0.49 per share on revenue of $154.10 million. Progress Software Corp (NASDAQ: PRGS) is estimated to post its FQ4 earnings at $0.33 per share on revenue of $133.54 million.

The US Defense Department awarded Boeing Co (NYSE: BA) a $3.48 billion contract over seven years to develop, test, engineer and manufacture missile defense systems.

Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE: VZ) dropped its plan to charge a $2 “convenience fee” on some bill payments.

Noah Education Holdings Ltd (NYSE: NED) announced the resignation of its Chief Executive Jerry He for personal reasons effective Sunday.

European markets were mostly higher today. The STOXX Europe 600 Index gained 0.69%, London's FTSE 100 Index moved up 1.24%, French CAC 40 index fell 0.45% and German DAX 30 index gained 1.03%.

Asian markets ended higher, with Australia's S&P/ASX 200 moving up 1.08%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index rose 2.4032% and India's Sensex surged 2.72%.

February gold futures surged around $24 to $1,590.70 an ounce. However, February oil futures gained $2.14 to $100.97 a barrel.

The dollar index (DXY) declined 0.5% to 79.772.
