How might Apple strike back now that the ban on the Galaxy Tab is about to be lifted?
Reuters
, the
Sydney Morning Herald
and numerous others are reporting that an Australian federal court “unanimously” decided to lift the preliminary injunction (which was imposed by a lower court) on sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1. According to Reuters, the court granted Apple a stay on lifting the sales ban until Friday afternoon. Song Myung-sub, a Seoul-based analyst, told Reuters that it is “hard to expect the ruling to have a major positive impact on Samsung's tablet business or legal cases in other countries as Apple could appeal ... and sales won't be restored anytime soon.” Song Myung-sub thinks that Apple
AAPL
will continue to dominate the tablet market “as Amazon appears to be the only viable threat at the moment and other vendors, including Samsung, continue to struggle.” This is a crucial win for Samsung. Australia isn't a very large market, but it is reportedly one of Apple's leading markets outside of the United States. Unfortunately for both tech companies, their patent wars are far from over. Most recently, Samsung
launched an attack
on the iPhone 4S.
