US Stock Futures Signal Lower Start On Wall Street
US stock futures are lower this morning, ahead of existing home sales. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 157 points to 11,610.00 and S&P 500 index futures fell 19.30 points to 1,194.60. Nasdaq 100 futures dropped 26 points to 2,223.75.
US stocks closed mostly lower on Friday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average gaining 0.22% to 11,796.16, the S&P 500 index declining 0.04% to 1,215.65 and the Nasdaq 100 index dipping 0.60% to 2,572.50.
Data on existing home sales for October will be released at 10 a.m. ET.
Tyson Foods Inc (NYSE: TSN) is projected to report its FQ2 EPS at $0.51 on revenue of $329.5 million. Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HPQ) is projected to report its Q4 earnings at $1.13 per share on revenue of $32.05 billion.
Analog Devices Inc (NYSE: ADI) is expected to report its Q4 EPS at $0.63 on revenue of $727.43 million. Tech Data Corp (NASDAQ: TECD) is estimated to report its Q3 EPS at $1.27 on revenue of $6.74 billion.
Brocade Communications Systems Inc (NASDAQ: BRCD) is estimated to report its Q4 EPS at $0.10 on revenue of $527.38 million. Zale Corporation (NYSE: ZLC) is expected to post a Q1 loss at $1.42 per share on revenue of $338.62 million.
Pearson PLC (NYSE: PSO) has agreed to buy Global Education and Technology Group (NASDAQ: GEDU) for $155 million in cash.
European markets were lower today. The STOXX Europe 600 Index declined 2.22%, London's FTSE 100 Index moved down 1.94%, French CAC 40 index fell 2.48% and German DAX 30 index dropped 2.48%.
Asian markets ended lower, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average dropping 0.3181%, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 moving down 0.31% and China's Shanghai Composite declining 0.06%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell 1.4352% and India's Sensex dropped 2.60%.
The dollar index (DXY) rose 0.41% to 78.35, versus 78.098 in North American trade late Friday.
The greenback declined 0.39% against the euro to trade at $1.3459, versus $1.3510 in North American trading late Friday.
Gold for December delivery dropped 0.57% to $1,715.30 an ounce.
