Innovation-seeking consumers aren't the only ones disappointed with Apple's unremarkable rehash.
It turns out that Samsung, the maker of the hugely popular Galaxy S II, is equally unhappy with Apple
AAPL
– but for different reasons. According to
TechWorld
, Samsung is attacking the iPhone 4S for violating its intellectual property rights and for “taking a free ride on its technology.” TechWorld says that the company is planning to file preliminary injection motions in Milan, Italy and Paris, France, in which it will ask the courts to block the sale of the new iPhone. Samsung wasted no time in taking legal action. In addition to its launch in America, the iPhone 4S is scheduled to launch in France on October 14 and in Italy on October 28. All things likely, Apple will have plenty of time to find a legal solution before the phone is set to go on sale in Italy. But with the French launch so imminent, there is a slight chance the company could be screwed in that nation. TechWorld says that the filings deal with two patent infringements related to wireless telecommunications technology (specifically the Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) “standards for 3G mobile handsets”). This is just the beginning for Samsung's assault. Upon further review, the company may file additional injunctions in other nations.
