Barnes & Noble
BKS
has taken the smart, if perhaps obvious, step of purchasing the now-defunct Borders' customer information list. Anybody that purchased books, music, DVDs or anything else from Borders in the past, that information, including buying habits, is now in the hands of BKS. The company plans to use the information, well, in much the same way as Borders did. Offers will be received via email, and details of events and new releases will be sent out. In addition, customers who were members of the Borders Premium scheme will be instantly made Barnes & Noble Members. There is an opt-out option.
Barnes & Noble has a page set up on its website
that gives further information, and the option of having information removed from the BKS list. In a letter posted on the BKS website, a statement read that, “Our intent in buying the Borders customer list is simply to try and earn your business. The majority of our stores are within close proximity to former Borders store locations.”
