“Pay no attention to that big red/white 4 in your stream,” WXYZ anchorman Stephen Clark (@sclarkwxyz) tweeted this morning. “They don't understand twitter. They'll learn.”

Clark is a Michigan anchorman for the Detroit-area ABC affiliate. The “big red/white 4” he refers to belongs to WDIV, the Detroit-area NBC affiliate.

On Twitter, Clark is famous for using the #backchannel to connect people both during and between newscasts.

“[It's] a place for everyone, not just me, to post news of interest and impact,” Clark wrote on his blog. He said that he uses Twitter, and specifically the #backchannel, to present what he believes to be a “more balanced news source.”

As one of the leaders in local news, Clark teased his competitor, AKA “Local 4,” for coming late to the Twitter party.

When I re-tweeted his message and proclaimed, “The war is on,” Clark responded @JasonRaznick by saying, “The funny thing-- I don't think they understand hashtags-- so they're not seeing this. #earlyrisers #backchannel.”
