Shares of BP
BP are slightly higher this morning, despite investors being scared about the
lawsuit from the U.S. government.
Legal experts believe that BP's legal costs could double from $40 billion to $80 billion if the U.S. is able to convince a court that BP was negligent.
"Clearly it is a negative development. It creates some fears concerning the ultimate decision on gross negligence or not," said Irene Himona, an analyst at Societe Generale.
At last check, shares of BP were up 12 cents to $43.98.
