Toyota (NYSE: TM) has had to make a slew of recalls during the recent past. Last week, the company had to recall 2.3 million vehicles on account of faulty accelerators.

According to CNBC correspondent Phil LeBeau, these recalls are likely to undermine the company’s USP of safety and reliability. In a damage-control move, Toyota is now installing a brake over-ride system on all models. The move is to signal that the company is ready to rectify any real or perceived issues with its gas pedals. According to Phil, recent recalls are likely to manifest themselves in coming months and right now it is too soon to predict the outcome.
