's Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg was a guest on
CNBC's "Squawk Alley" on Tuesday to talk about the company's advertising initiatives.

Sandberg said that video advertisements on the social media platform is "exploding." This is evident based on the fact that there are now 4 million advertisers on the platform, which is up from 3 million just in March.

After all, the success of Facebook's advertising initiatives is "dependent on growing the businesses of the companies" the company works with.

Sandberg went on to defend Facebook following reports it may have been misleading clients on certain video ad metrics. She said it all comes down to a "mistake on how we were calculating one of our video viewing metrics" and that it was not a metric used to bill clients.

"We take any mistake really seriously and trust is so important," Sandberg said. "We also believe very strongly in third-party measurement. We're not just grading our own homework - but other people can validate our metrics."

Sandberg went on to say that the most important factors advertisers consider is who sees their ads, how they are spending their ad budgets and if an ad is resulting in a sale.

"What we're working on is all of that measurement so that we can go all the way through from what someone sees to to their purchases," she explained.

Shares of Facebook were trading higher by more than 1 percent at $128.90 Tuesday afternoon.
