Retailers and department stores continue to suffer from declining traffic and sales. However, US-based retailers appear to be as popular as ever in the global market which provides a unique and compelling venue for growth.
CNBC's Diana Olick
noted that the US topped all other countries in opening retail brick and mortar stores oversees. So what are the hottest cities for a US-based retailer? It's no surprise that most of the top cities are in Asia. Olick continued that the top ranked hottest city for retail stores is Hong Kong, followed by Singapore, Tokyo and Taipai. Other top ranked cities include Moscow, London, Dubai, Beijng, Bucharest and Doha. She added that a growing trend among US-based retailers is to bring homewear brands to the international market - a difficult task given the large size of the stores involved and selling to a different culture. Meanwhile, foreign brands aren't as active in entering the US space given the competitive and maturity of the already existing domestic retail market. Of those that have entered the US market, coffee shops and restaurants accounted for 20 percent of all foreign stores setting up shop in the US.
