Pitney Bowes CEO Marc Lautenbach was on CNBC Wednesday to explain what the company does and how recession in other countries is affecting the company.

Postal Company And Much More

“We are certainly a postal company and that’s a important part of our heritage and important part of our future. That said…we are much more than that, we have some great businesses in the world of digital commerce that have been growing substantially for the last several quarters,” Lautenbach said.

What Different Businesses Does Pitney Bowes Operate?

“We have a couple of digital businesses: we have a business that focuses on cross-border shipping, we have a business that focuses on location intelligence, we have a business that focuses on information management and helping clients manage that information and what we call engagement software, which is basically around content of messaging and statements and so forth,” Lautenbach said.

Revenue Amounts Outside The United States

“Thirty percent of our business is outside the United States. And as you trip around the world, what you see is economies in some parts of the world that are doing okay, others that are doing a little bit less well,” Lautenbach replied.

When asked which countries are doing less well, Lautenbach answered, “Well, currently southern part of Europe is more difficult, Latin America has slowed down a touch, China -- while still growing -- has slowed down as well.”
