Twitter Inc TWTR is in news Tuesday for two reasons. The good news being the announcement of a tool that will allow people to use their credit cards as coupons; Meanwhile, the embarrassment came from its company’s CFO accidentally tweeting what was meant to be a private message.

CNBC's Julia Boorstin reported on the new tool announced by the company and what its CEO had said about improving private messaging.

"Twitter Offers allows advertisers to offer a deal, big brand like JC Penney or local coffee shop […] might give say 10 percent off in stores  or online, which consumers can then add to their credit card, then when they make a purchase, that discount is automatically applied, sending a Twitter notification that the offer has been redeemed, with the savings appearing in your credit card statement."

According to Boorstin, the accidental tweet by Twitter's CFO speaks about the challenge that the company is facing, which is to make its service easier to use. She reflected upon how at Twitter’s recent investors meeting, CEO Dick Costolo said that improvements are needed in the platform's private messaging functionality.

"We're going to add significant functionality to private messaging and you'll start seeing that functionality roll out this quarter. It will be the beginning of a steady cadence of improvement to private messaging functionality within Twitter," Costolo said.

Shares of Twitter recently traded at $39.81, down 0.91 percent.
