CEO Meg Whitman appeared on CNBC's Squawk on the Street Tuesday where she discussed redefining the company within a transitioning
tech
market that's emphasizing big data and cloud computing. Whitman sees the market getting better for a few reasons, including the Windows XP

refresh “which we capitalized on,” as well as a need for traditional computing devices in businesses with office needs; especially in “big data and analytics,” which mobile devices like tablets can't handle. “I do think we're going to see a little bit more brightness in the PC market, although IBC and others do forecast a continuing decline in the traditional PC market,” said Whitman. “So our job is: How do we have great devices that employees and consumers want? And, ah, you know, try to gain share in a very tough market.” She expressed enthusiasm when discussing the commercial side of their business, saying that HP can provide a serious value proposition at the commercial level in a variety of areas, such as security. “We'll play in consumer, but commercial is where we have a right to win,” said Whitman. She highlighted the importance of having an “optimal cost structure to compete in this new world order” of tech that's competitive in every area, going on to say that they're redesigning their cost structure to compete in the future.

She had a list of products like Cloud System 8, which allows users to build both private and public Cloud environments, and TippingPoint, a network security system, as “perfect” for the the future of IT and where the market is moving. “And we have to be willing to cannibalize ourselves, because if we do not do it to ourselves, someone else will,” Whitman said.
