Big Chains Going Small: CNBC (WMT, WAG, BIG)

Big retail chains are now experimenting with smaller formats. According to CNBC, Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT) has opened four Marketside stores in Phoenix.
Marketside stores are smaller than regular Wal-Mart stores. Similarly, Big Lots (NYSE: BIG) has also opened four smaller stores. However, these big chains are likely face more competition from smaller chains experimenting with groceries.
Talking with CNBC, Andrew Wolf, an analyst with BB&T Capital Markets said that the traditional convenience stores are moving to fresh. He likes Walgreens (NYSE: WAG) and said that the chain is well positioned with 7000 of the most convenient stores across the country.
