Biotechnology stocks have performed well so far this year. Mark Schoebebaum, managing director and senior research analyst at Deutsche Bank (NYSE: DB), shared his views about the sector with CNBC.
According to Schoebebaum, the sector performed extremely well during the tough times in 2008. However, 2009 saw a tepid performance due to the pending health care bill. According to Schoebebaum, biotechnology drugs are high-price drugs, and the price points look less sustainable in the light of health care bill provisions.
Among the companies in the sector, Schoenebaum likes Amgen (NASDAQ: AMGN), Gilead Sciences (NASDAQ: GILD), Acorda Therapeutics (NASDAQ: ACOR) and Dendreon(NASDAQ: DNDN).
