What Phil Mickelson Said About Ryder Cup Captain Tom Watson: 10 Crazy Quotes (in progress)

Surprise, surprise. The United States lost the Ryder Cup to Europe on Sunday, in a tournament that's become more infamous for Yankee disappointment than stellar golf. In a awkward press conference that was more entertaining than most of the golf that preceded it, a clearly miffed Phil Mickelson implicitly bashed U.S. captain Tom Watson for the team's decisive Ryder Cup loss to Europe. The proceedings were especially uncomfortable given that Watson and the rest of the United States team were all sitting on the same dais as Mickelson ripped into Watson's captaincy. The 65-year-old Watson was the immediate scapegoat — deserved or not — after Europe won its eighth Ryder Cup in the last 10 competitions. His decision to play Mickelson and Keegan Bradley on Friday afternoon instead of the hot Patrick Reed and Jordan Spieth was one of the key criticisms, as was Watson's decision to bench Mickelson and Bradley for both of Saturday's matches.
