USDA Monthly Cold Storage Report

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Monthly Cold Storage report was released Tuesday after the close of livestock futures trading. The USDA report showed total red meat supplies in the nations freezers on December 31st were up 1 percent from the previous month and down 2 percent from a year ago. Stocks of frozen beef rose 6.8 percent from the previous month to a record of 567 million pounds, up 10.6 percent from a year ago. Stocks of frozen pork totaled 477.2 million pounds, down 8 percent from last month and down 12.5 percent from a year ago.
