USDA Quarterly Hogs and Pigs Report

The USDA all hogs and pigs report release today showed the nation's hog inventory on September 1st, 2016 was 70.851 million head, up 2.4 percent versus a year ago and up 3.6 percent from June 1, 2016. Breeding inventory was 6.016 million head, up 0.5 percent from last year and up 0.6 percent from June 1st, 2016. Ready for market hog inventory was 64.835 million head, up 2.6 percent versus a year ago and up 3.8 percent from June 1st. The USDA survey showed fall farrowings down 0.03 percent and winter farrowings down 0.06 percent. The Hogs and Pigs report showed inventory of market hogs by weight group was: 180 pounds and over up 4.1 percent, 120-179 pounds up 3.7 percent, 50-119 pounds, up 1.9 percent and under 50 pounds up 1.7 percent.
