Lean Hog Futures Sharply Higher

October lean hogs are trading at 60.85, up 2.15 cents /lb. December lean hogs are trading at 56.40, up 1.92 cents/lb. February lean hogs are trading at 60.95, up 1.60 cents/lb. Lean hog futures are trading sharply higher after Thursday's sharp move down. Thursday's USDA estimated hog slaughter was 426,000 head. The total for the week is now 1,731,000 head, up from 1,718,000 a week ago and up from 1,713,000 a year ago at this time. Trading is expected to be very choppy.
