NCR To Acquire DVDPlay Kiosks

NCR Corp. (NYSE: NCR), the maker of ATM machines and cash registers, will reportedly acquire DVD kiosk operator DVDPlay. Georgia-based NCR will convert the DVDPlay's 1,300 kiosks to the Blockbuster Express brand name in effort to challenge Coinstar's (Nasdaq: CSTR) Redbox DVD kiosks.

Video rental chain Blockbuster (NYSE: BBI) will license its brand to NCR and get a percentage of rental revenue from the kiosks.

Even with the acquisition, NCR have just 3,800 DVD rental kiosks compared with more than 20,000 for Redbox, according to the Wall Street Journal.
