December 04, 2009 4:32 PM
Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) fan site MacRumors.com is reporting that the popular electronics giant might be field testing a new iPhone version. According to the site, Pandav says that it has spotted usage records for a yet-to-be released model of the popular smart phone.
Pandav claims that its usage logs started to indicate the use of an “iPhone 3.1” identifier last month. The last iPhone release was the 3GS, which has the identifier “iPhone 2.1”.
Apple has not commented on the rumor, nor has it yet detailed what features the next iPhone will boast. The company tends to announce new releases and products at its own events, which are widely covered by the media.
AAPL has enjoyed much success and prominence with its iPhone, although the stock is down today from Thursday’s close. It has shed $3 to $193.49.
