Microsoft (MSFT) Challenges Google (GOOG)
November 23, 2009 2:35 PM
Microsoft (NYSE: MSFT) has decided to take the ‘search-engine’ war to the next level. After introducing Bing, Microsoft is now trying to cut Google’s (NYSE: GOOG) resources.
Microsoft is rumored to have entered into a pact with News Corp (NYSE: NWS) to remove its listing from Google database. Microsoft is also in talks with other major online publishers to remove their sites from rival Google’s search database. These developments are expected to affect not only Google’s fortune but will also have tremendous impact on newspaper industry.
The newspaper industry is currently witnessing a tectonic shift from print to online model, however it yet has to come up with a feasible model. At the very same time, Google downplayed the developments claiming that news content is not a major source of revenue for it. Microsoft and News Corp, however, have declined to confirm the news.
