Nash Finch (NAFC) Reports 2009 Q3 Results

Nash Finch Company (NASDAQ: NAFC), one of the leading food distribution companies in the United States, announced financial results for the sixteen weeks (third quarter) ended October 10, 2009.
Total company sales for the third quarter 2009 were $1.633B compared to $1.416B in the prior-year quarter, an increase of 15.3%. Excluding the impact of the sales increase of $229.2M attributable to the acquisition of three military distribution centers on January 31, 2009, sales decreased by 0.9% versus last year primarily due to price deflation. Sales for the first forty weeks of 2009 were $3.990B compared to $3.445B in the prior-year period, an increase of 15.8%. Excluding the impact of the sales increase of $508.4M attributable to the acquisition of the three military distribution centers on January 31, 2009, total company sales increased 1.1% year-to-date.
Net earnings for the third quarter 2009 were $21.9M, or $1.64 per diluted share, as compared to net earnings of $7.7M, or $0.58 per diluted share, in the prior year quarter. Net earnings for the first forty weeks of 2009 were $45.9M, or $3.44 per diluted share, as compared to net earnings of $27.7M, or $2.10 per diluted share, in the same prior-year period.
