After China, India is considered to be one of the fastest growing telecom markets in the world. The latest entrant in this market is search engine giant Google (NASDAQ: GOOG).
Google seems to be excited about the opportunities in the growing Indian telecom market. The interest is mainly in Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) also known as WiMAX. There are two ways to enter the market: it could either be a technology partner or join an Indian company in a 3G auction. The auction is set to start on January 14, 2010.
Business Standard reports that India’s 3G subscribers may total 90 million by 2013. As mobile subscribers outnumber Internet users, analysts feel that Google may find it necessary to participate in the Indian 3G market to protect its business in India.
