Google Invests In Two Wind Farms (GOOG, FPL)
Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) has announced it is investing $38.8 million in two wind farms. These farms are built by NextEra Resources (NYSE: FPL). According to The Wall Street Journal, the investments mark a departure from Google’s (GOOG) initial approach to invest in early-stage renewable energy companies. Google has said that the investment in energy projects will help in developing clean energy technology. It stated that the investments will also provide good returns to Google shareholders.
Rick Needham, Google’s green business operations manager, wrote on the company’s blog, “We're aiming to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy, in a way that makes good business sense, too.” Google has said that electricity generated at these farms will not be used to power any of the company’s data centers.
