A top Republican lawmaker has raised questions on the timing of the case filed by the SEC against Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS). The SEC filed a lawsuit against Goldman on Friday.
Following this, some Democrats have said the case for financial regulation overhaul has become stronger now. However, Republicans have raised questions and say that the case has been filed close to the start of a debate on the financial regulation overhaul bill that could change the way how Wall Street functions.
In a letter to SEC, Darrell Issa, who is the top Republican on the House Oversight Committee, said, “The timing of the SEC's filing of a civil securities fraud action against Goldman Sachs has created serious questions about the commission's independence and impartiality.”
