EADS is still in contention for a multibillion dollar contract for aerial refueling aircrafts. EADS had recently ended the trans-Atlantic partnership formed for the purpose of bidding on the contract. The US Defense Department has signaled its willingness to extend its May 10 deadline for bids. Louis Gallois, the Chief Executive Officer of EADS, had earlier indicated that the company may not be able to meet the deadline. He further stated that the company is not searching for new partners.

In the absence of EADS, Boeing (NYSE: BA) is likely to win the contract. Via this contract, EADS is looking to expand its reach in the US military market. Last week, Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) dropped out of the race for the contract.
