Barnes & Noble Inc. (NYSE: BKS) has appointed William Lynch as its new chief executive officer. William Lynch is presently the president of Barnes & Noble’s (BKS) web site. He will replace Steve Riggio, who has held the office since 2002. Steve Riggio will retain his position as vice chairman. Leonard Riggio, Chairman of the company, said, “William came to us as a skillful leader in e-commerce who, in a short period of time, has done a superb job in quickly establishing Barnes & Noble as a major player in e-commerce and digital content."

Barnes & Noble’s chief operating office Mitchell Klipper has been appointed as the CEO of its retail division. Barnes & Noble had showed a marginal decline in its same-store sales volume in the third-quarter.
