Google Denied “Nexus” Trademark (GOOG)
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has refused to grant the “Nexus One” trademark to Google (NASDAQ: GOOG). The petition has been declined due to its possible confusion with a related trademark held by Integra Telecom Inc. Integra had registered the trademark in 2008 and currently provides telecommunication service under that name.
A Google (GOOG) spokesperson said, “We continue to claim rights to the Nexus One trademark in the United States, and plan to respond to the office action from the U.S. Patent Trademark Office." Whereas, Integra spokesperson stated, “"We hope we can work together to achieve our respective business goals." The company also said that it has not received any communication from Google about the matter.
Nexus One was launched in January this year.
