AVI BioPharma Inc (NASDAQ: AVII) shares advanced 7.4% after the drug developer reported a profitable quarter.
Benihana Inc (NASDAQ: BNHN) shares added 8.8% to close at $6.40 after a New York Post report indicated that the Japanese-themed restaurant chain has received a $7 a share takeover offer from investor Russell Glass.
Cliffs Natural Resources Inc (NYSE: CLF) moved up 4.9% after Deutsche Bank raised its target price for the company from $65 to $85.

Popular Inc (NASDAQ: BPOP) shares jumped 13.3% after The Wall Street Journal reported that the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp is seeking buyers for three bank rivals in Puerto Rico.
Sonic Corp (NASDAQ: SONC) added 5.6% following the upgrade in rating by Piper Jaffray from “underweight” to “overweight.”
Town Sports International Holdings Inc (NASDAQ: CLUB) soared 16.8% after the fitness club operator reported narrower losses in the fourth quarter.
