Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE: HPQ) has issued an apology to Chinese consumers for its malfunctioning laptops. The company also has offered extended warranties and compensation. Earlier, HP (HPQ) had denied any responsibility for the faulty machines. The company released a statement on its Chinese website stating, “For any inconvenience due to product or service problems, Hewlett-Packard earnestly apologizes to customers."

A group of Chinese consumers had sued HP for discrimination. According to the group, the company had provided extended warranty to its US customers, whereas Chinese consumers facing the same problem were not given any such extension. HP had denied the allegation. The case was then brought under the jurisdiction of a product-quality agency.
