Google’s Nexus One Lags Behind iPhone & Droid (GOOG, MOT, AAPL)
Google Inc.’s (NASDAQ: GOOG) Nexus One has failed to make a splash in the smartphone segment. According to a report released by Flurry, an analytics firm, initial sales of Nexus have considerably lagged behind iPhone and Motorola (NYSE: MOT) Droid. Google sold 135,000 Nexus phones within 75 days of its launch. Motorola sold 1.05 million Droid phones during the same timeframe, whereas the figure for Apple’s (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone stood at 1 million. Flurry has extrapolated Nexus sales figures for the last few days.
Nexus was developed in collaboration with HTC Corp. and was launched in January. The phone is available exclusively through its web outlet. However, there is a silver lining for Google. According to a report issued by comScore, the market share of smartphones with Android OS has grown from 2.8% to 7.1% in January.
