Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) has jumped on the airline bandwagon and will start charging for food.

Continental Airlines advertise their free sandwiches and hamburgers, comparing them to competitor airline pretzels. However, this method of advertising will end as of fall 2010.

Coach passengers can be expected to pay for these currently free food items in the near future. The company expects to gain $35 million a year as a result of the change. The amount includes both revenue and cost savings.

They menu and prices will be announced later this year.

Continental Airlines shares are up 0.95% in afternoon trading.
