The US is taking allegations of monopolistic behavior in the agriculture industry seriously.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack addressed a group of farmers, labor and consumer groups and corporate representatives at an Iowa college auditorium.

The previous day a rally was held by farmers and other critics of companies like Monsanto (NYSE: MON).

Monsanto, in particular has come under fire not just by farmers and consumer groups but even competitors such as E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company (NYSE: DD) have called on the government to look into Monsanto's business practices.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, addressed the crowd and said that although they weren't against big business, big business could not be allowed to misuse its power.
